A checklist for changing a copy-trading provider
This post is also available in Persian ←

Changing a copy provider involves more than choosing a new name. Review old instructions, open positions, fees and overlapping copying, with responsibility and confirmation at each stage.
Changing a copy provider can alter an account’s method and exposure, but choosing a new name does not necessarily end its previous state. Pending instructions and open positions may remain. A change plan should identify what stops, what remains and who is responsible for each part.
Separate the reason from recent returns
Method differences, liquidity constraints or poor communication differ from simply seeing another provider’s stronger chart. Record reasons, evidence and unresolved issues. A new candidate’s good history guarantees neither repetition in a follower account nor freedom from switching costs.
What does stopping new copying actually do?
Read the specific system’s rules to establish whether stopping affects only later instructions or performs other operations too. An already accepted order may execute afterwards. Reconcile interface responses with host status and instruction reports. Do not assume a stop button closes every position or finalises every charge.
A hypothetical unintended overlap
Suppose the old provider’s positions remain open while the new connection copies the same instrument in the same direction. Exposure may exceed the new target. Two provider names do not establish diversification, and opposite instructions do not necessarily offset without costs. This example recommends no closure, hedge or transfer of an actual position.
Prepare a pre-change state record
- The active connection, copying ratio and current limits.
- All pending instructions and open positions from the previous relationship.
- Termination charges, settlement and minimum-balance terms where applicable.
- Authority for remaining positions and the response route.
- Evidence confirming that new instructions from the old connection have ended.
Do not blindly copy previous settings
Quantity ratios, symbol types and loss controls must be reviewed against the new method and follower specifications. A setting with one effect under the old approach may behave differently under another. Copying a field value without understanding its unit and basis is not risk reconciliation. Missing information should remain visible until clarified.
Keep the transition visible in reporting
If account results include trades from both periods, state each period’s timing and scope. Do not automatically attribute losses on remaining positions to the new provider or remove switching costs from the investor’s own report. Termination does not authorise erasing earlier history to manufacture a preferred chart.
Completion needs reviewable confirmation
Record the previous connection, remaining state and accepted new settings with timestamps. Keep unknowns open; successful connectivity alone does not establish completed handover. When reviewing accounts, consider methods alongside restrictions and consult existing routes in the help center. This framework instructs no deposit and recommends no particular provider.
