Responding to a trade-copying connection failure
This post is also available in Persian ←

A copying disconnection does not necessarily close positions. Establish actual account state, pending requests and action authority before reconnecting or repeating orders.
When a trade-copying screen stops updating, the first question is not which button to press. Establish which connection failed and what the trading account actually holds. A display-data outage, interrupted signal delivery and failure to reach the host are different events. Acting on an outdated screen can increase the discrepancy.
Disconnection does not end responsibility for open positions
Earlier positions may remain open at the host even while the copying tool is unavailable. A stop or take-profit instruction continues independently only if it has actually been recorded where that is required; some controls depend on connected software. Consult the specific system’s documentation for order location and behavior during an outage.
Identify the last reliable state
Record the last synchronization time and time zone, then check the account through the host’s official channel. An accepted request may have executed without its acknowledgment reaching the copying tool. “I saw no response” therefore does not necessarily mean “nothing executed.” Keep missing acknowledgment separate from confirmed rejection.
A hypothetical duplicate instruction
Suppose confirmation of a purchase never reaches the screen, but the host has completed it. Resending the purchase without reconciliation may leave the account larger than intended. The reverse situation also matters: a closing request may still be pending, and a new instruction can interact with its later execution. This example does not allege a failure at a named service.
A short outage checklist
- Record when the problem was noticed and the last reliable account state.
- Check open positions and active orders through an official host channel.
- Reconcile uncertain request identifiers with host outcomes; avoid blind retries.
- Establish who is authorized to stop new signals or act on existing positions under the agreement.
- Report the specific discrepancy to the responsible manager or support team without sending passwords or private keys.
Stopping new instructions is not closing the account
Pausing new copying may be considered to prevent further divergence, but it does not mean earlier positions are closed. Immediately closing everything can itself create costs and losses. Action must fit the actual account state, authorized responsibilities and the agreed response plan. This article is not a trading instruction for a crisis.
Check recovery as well as failure
Before resuming, establish how the system treats signals generated during the outage: discarding them, replaying them or requiring confirmation are different possibilities. Read actual settings rather than assuming one behavior. Reconcile master and follower size, direction, active orders and execution times. A green connection indicator does not establish that the accounts match.
Review copy-trading account information to understand the method and use the platform guides to identify available support. Know the contact route beforehand. During an outage, an unfamiliar link or urgent request for account access should not be treated as trustworthy merely because it promises a quick fix.
What should be recorded afterward?
Keep the start and end times, uncertain instructions, reconciliation outcomes, authorized decisions and outstanding differences. Retain review evidence without exposing confidential information. The aim is to improve the process, not to assume every discrepancy was the manager’s or user’s fault. Reconnection neither recovers earlier losses nor guarantees later profits.
