Pool versus PAMM: two collective structures, two logics
This post is also available in Persian ←

PAMM means a share in one manager’s performance; a pool means participation in a shared trading capacity under common rules.
Both are “collective”, but their logic differs — and confusing them leads to wrong decisions.
The difference at a glance
| Aspect | PAMM | Pool |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | A share in one manager’s account | Participation in a shared trading capacity |
| Decision-maker | The account manager | The pool’s declared rules |
| Result sharing | Pro-rata, after the manager’s fee | Per that pool’s rules |
Which is for you?
If you want to pick and follow a specific manager, PAMM (or GAMM, for rule-committed managers) is your path. If a participation structure with common rules appeals to you, vet the pool with the five risk questions. See both side by side: the PAMM accounts and the pools.
Frequently asked questions
Is a pool lower risk than PAMM? Different structure, not simply more or less; the rules of that structure define your risk. The fair comparison is rules versus rules.
Can I be in both PAMM and a pool? Yes; that itself is structural diversification. Watch your total risk, not the pieces.
Who manages the pool? Each pool defines its management mechanism in its terms; know this before joining.
Which is the better starting point? For getting familiar with structures, PAMM usually offers the simpler start: a defined share of one defined manager’s performance, with written terms. A pool demands more understanding of collective participation. But do not decide from “ease of starting”; decide from the fit between the structure and your goal and risk tolerance.
Summary
Each structure was built for a logic. Understand the logics, then choose: PAMM and pools.
The difference in three lines
- PAMM: a share in one specific manager’s performance
- Pool: participation in shared capacity under rules
- PAMM’s decision-maker is the manager; a pool’s are its rules
- Both are collective with different logics
