Checking trading access without withdrawal permission

Disabling withdrawals does not remove every managed-account risk. Review trading permissions, internal transfers, API scope and access revocation separately.

“The manager cannot withdraw funds” is important, but it does not make account management risk-free. A person with trading authority may still reduce account value through unsuitable exposure, leverage or excessive costs. In a model where the platform does not hold investor funds, both the asset holder and the manager’s authority must be clear. Neither question replaces the other.

Separate permission types

  • Read access: viewing balances, history and reports. These records can themselves be confidential.
  • Trading access: placing, changing and cancelling orders or managing positions, subject to controls the system actually supports.
  • Transfer access: moving assets between accounts, wallets or subaccounts; this may be distinct from external withdrawals.
  • Withdrawal access: moving assets out of the account or system, as defined by the particular host.

Do not assume that disabling external withdrawals also disables internal transfers or access to every market. Permission names and boundaries differ among brokers, exchanges and software products. Use the official description of the specific product and inspect your actual account settings.

Apply the least-privilege principle

Grant only the permissions necessary for the defined task. If a manager needs a report for an initial review, trading or withdrawal authority should not be treated as a routine prerequisite. Where cooperation requires trading authority, examine market, instrument, subaccount and network restrictions where the host supports them. Do not describe an unavailable capability as an established technical safeguard in an agreement.

Do not substitute a master password, recovery code, two-factor code or wallet private key for the permitted delegation mechanism. Do not put these secrets in public chats, articles, tickets without an appropriate secure process, or shared files. A record of settings that does not expose secrets is more useful for documenting a review than distributing the key itself.

What should be confirmed before connecting?

  1. Identify the account owner and hosting legal entity, and ensure authority is assigned to the correct party.
  2. Review read, trade, transfer and withdrawal permissions separately.
  3. Understand revocation before cooperation begins; the account owner should retain control of revoking access.
  4. Review event logging and alerts for access or permission changes to the extent actually supported.
  5. Where a suitable test environment is available, examine control behavior there. A screenshot alone does not demonstrate execution behavior.

Revoking access is not the same as ending exposure

Revocation may block subsequent requests without removing open positions, submitted orders or operations already accepted by the system. An exit plan should identify who reviews what remains. If unauthorized access is suspected, use the host’s official containment and reporting process and preserve event records.

Agreements and technical controls must align

An agreement should define roles, authority, reporting and the end of cooperation. Technical controls should support those descriptions. “We do not hold your funds” must not become a claim of “no risk.” Consult the platform guides for available processes, and describe your needs and authority boundaries in a management cooperation inquiry without sending access secrets.

This is a general guide to reviewing authority, not an endorsement of a host’s security or a recommendation of a particular manager. Trading losses, infrastructure failures and manager conduct remain relevant even when withdrawals are disabled.
