Foreign exchange brokers: opportunity, restrictions and API safety

A foreign exchange opens a larger market, but restrictions for Iran-based users and account freezes cannot be ignored. Here are the rules to choose and secure.

For many traders, foreign exchange brokers mean a larger market, more tools and copy trading. But that option carries a hidden condition: access to and ownership of assets depends on the exchange’s rules and your country of residence. Choosing one without reading that condition is like choosing a broker from an advert. This guide puts the opportunity and the restriction side by side.

What a foreign exchange offers

  • A larger market: more pairs and deeper liquidity in crypto markets;
  • Copy-trading tools: automatically mirroring another trader or delegating an account;
  • Managed accounts: some managers offer copy or dedicated management on these venues.

Domestic and foreign exchange details are published with sources in the exchange directory. PAMM Iran publishes information only and is not responsible for an exchange’s decisions.

The restriction you cannot ignore

Many foreign exchanges restrict or prohibit service to users resident in Iran because of sanctions, and may freeze accounts. Access to assets can then become difficult or impossible. Before depositing anything, read that exchange’s terms of use and do not assume someone else’s experience will repeat for you.

Buying or using a verified account in someone else’s name is extremely risky and can lead to total loss of assets.

PAMM Iran no longer accepts new unsupervised dedicated management based on handing an account password to a manager; the current methods are in the methods guide.

API key safety: three non-negotiable rules

  1. Read and trade only: never create a key with withdrawal permission, even when the exchange offers it.
  2. IP restriction: bind the key to a specific IP address so it cannot be used elsewhere.
  3. Rotation and revocation: rotate the key regularly and delete it immediately when a cooperation ends.

These three rules apply to any cooperation with a manager or copy-trading service. If a service asks for withdrawal permission, stop the conversation there. The details are in the foreign exchanges guide.

How to choose an exchange

CriterionPractical question
History and supervisionWhat is its track record, and what source verifies its licence claim?
SecurityHow are two-factor authentication, device management and past incidents handled?
FeesWhat are the trade, deposit and withdrawal fees, and are they in your return calculation?
Deposit and withdrawal networksWhich USDT network is supported and what is the minimum withdrawal?
Policy on Iran-based usersWhat do the terms say, and how high is the freeze risk?

Keep receipts and records

Your deposit and withdrawal history is the most important evidence in any dispute. Keep the receipt file, timestamp, amount and transfer network together in a safe place so the trail can be reconstructed if an account is frozen.

Record every deposit and withdrawal with the receipt and timestamp. For PAMM Iran treasury transactions, verify authenticity on the receipt verification page. If you plan to invest in prop-backed accounts, read the prop directory terms separately; an exchange and a prop firm play different roles.

Frequently asked questions

Is a foreign exchange safe for users in Iran?

There is no general answer. Each venue’s terms and freeze risk must be assessed separately, and PAMM Iran takes no responsibility for that decision.

Does copy trading at an exchange need withdrawal permission?

No. Copy trading needs read and trade permissions only. Any request for withdrawal permission is a red flag.

What if my exchange account is frozen?

Follow up with that exchange’s support with transaction records. PAMM Iran only publishes exchange information and is not your counterparty.

The bottom line

A foreign exchange is attractive for its larger market and tools, but geographic restrictions, freeze risk and key security must be clear before any deposit. Take the three API rules seriously, read the venue’s terms, and record every transaction with a receipt.
