Choosing between MT4 and MT5 is not a small technical decision: it affects your broker choice, your tools, even your management method. But the answer to “which?” is meaningless without “for what work?”.

“Which is better?” is the wrong question. The right one: “which is right for my work?” Four real differences:

Which should I install to start? Look at your broker: does it offer both? Then the choice is your tools and style. If you own MT4 EAs, stay on MT4 until the code is migrated.

Is MT5 definitely better? It is newer; “better” depends on your needs. For pure forex, MT4 still fully delivers.

Is the data identical on both platforms? Each broker provides its own data; do not compare the same symbol across platforms as if identical.

Should I migrate from MT4 to MT5? Only if you have a specific need MT5 answers: other markets, the netting model, stronger analytical tools. Reasonless migration has costs (EAs, habits, scripts) and no benefit. The rule: choose tools by the work, not by the calendar year.
