Prop Shield safety buffer: the distance between a trigger and a loss limit

A safety buffer moves the hedge-request trigger ahead of a stated limit. Understand EA floors, firm rules and execution limits before choosing it.

What the buffer means

The buffer is part of a trigger configuration, not extra loss allowance granted by a prop firm. The EA subtracts it from daily and total limits to attempt an opposite order before the nominal threshold. There is no universal recommended setting: consider firm rules, symbol conditions, account type and execution constraints.

Technical trigger floors

In the current SEPAR code, the effective daily threshold is the greater of 0.2% and the daily limit minus the buffer. The total threshold has a 0.5% floor. These are EA constants, not firm rules or investment advice. After rounding to two decimal places, the buffer must be smaller than the daily limit. Equal or larger values can conceal the intended configuration behind the technical floor, so the form rejects them.

Compatibility comes before a number

A buffer cannot reconcile a firm’s accounting rules with SEPAR’s local baseline. If the firm resets its day at another time or measures total loss against initial capital, matching percentages may still produce different results. Compare definitions and timing first; do not copy a setting simply because it is common.

Web record and terminal configuration

Record InpDailyLossPct, InpTotalDdPct and InpHedgeBufferPct in the workspace and enter the same values manually in the EA source. Compile the MT4 or MT5 source in MetaEditor. Saving the web settings does not remotely configure MetaTrader. Keep reporting credentials private and configure WebRequest permissions using the setup guide.

Why a buffer is not a guarantee

Gaps, insufficient margin, disconnections, hedging restrictions, slippage and trading costs can change the outcome. An opposite order is a market request, not a pending order accepted in advance. Even a larger buffer cannot guarantee execution before a rule breach. Compatibility testing outside the challenge and independent monitoring remain necessary.

Conclusion

A buffer changes when the EA attempts a hedge. Record limits with their rule source and the EA’s constraints. If the two calculation methods are incompatible, do not treat the tool as a substitute for your own risk controls and monitoring.
